Zoo Phonics

The first month or so of school Porter was learning his Alphabet and the sounds by singing a song called Zoo Phonics.  For each letter there is an animal and they do a little action in the song.  Then they get to perform it while dressed up as their favorite animal.  Porter wanted to be Sammy Snake!  That was a tough costume to come up with, but it worked out all right!

The next week (September 28th) the whole Kindergarten went on a field trip to the zoo.  I drove down with another mom to meet Porter there.

Our Family Tradition of "Pigs N Peaches"

For the past 3 years we have been going to Kennesaw City's event called "Pigs N Peaches".  It's always the end of August and super hot, but we keep going for some reason.  They have live music, lots of pork (there is a contest for the best BBQ), games, prizes, free stuff and the best fresh lemonade I've ever had!

Kalin wanted her face painted for free at the Kennesaw Pediatrics booth (our pediatrician).  Porter didn't really want to do anything, so we dont have many pictures of him.
 Riding a sheep!
Kalin has done this before, but she was a bit nervous as you can see on her face!
 Still not so sure....
Thinking about it...
Ok, this is kinda fun!
Here's Porter!  What a handsome little man!

Soccer Season is Here

Soccer season started the end of August for Kalin and beginning of September for Porter.  It's been a change having them both play since we now have practice Monday nights and Thursday nights.  Then Saturday we have games at 12 and 1:30, so we are in the sun about 3 hours.  It has been pretty hot - you can tell below how red Kalin is under the umbrella, and that's before her game has even started!
First day of practice!
Trying to stay cool while watching Porter play his game.
Come on Porter!
Porter has been learning to snap his fingers and most of the game he was out there showing us he what a good job he could do!
Porter made quite a few goals his first game and he couldn't help but keep track of every one!  He even kept showing the other team how many he'd made after each goal.
He's had a few rough days getting on the field (or staying), but he has really loved it.  He stays with the ball pretty good and really tries hard to get that ball in the goal.

Our two soccer stars!!
Riley, Kimberley, Kalin, Nicole and Skyler waiting on the sidelines to have their turn on the field.  They have 10 girls on their team and play 5 on 5.
Yup, that's Alan!  He was playing REF for the first couple games.
Go after that ball!!

Kalins first time as goalie!  She did awesome!  Look at her all ready to attack!

Those Darn Red Wasps!!

Who'd have thought a little wasp sting would lead to calling 911??....Saturday Kalin was out riding her bike in the driveway and was stung by a red wasp. She came running in screaming and I calmly set her down to have a look. I put some calamine lotion on it and a bandaid, thinking that was all she'd need along with a little lovin. Well, she started getting little tiny hives all over her face and body. She was screaming and hitting her ears, saying they felt like they were blocked. I called my friend and go to person once again (Sharon) to ask what she thought.  Then I noticed that her face turned bright red and her face started swelling up - her eyes looked like they were going to swell shut, her top lip was huge, and her ears looked like big puffy fake ears. She said she felt ill and a little dizzy. I called her pediatrician and talked with a nurse who told me to call 911.  They were there within 5 minutes (awesome!!). It all worked out fine, but we now have to keep an epi-pen at home and school just in case there is a next time. The doctor said she may not be able to breath next time!

A little scary, but I'm so thankful that she is fine and for all those who helped me and helped this whole experience be a calm one. What a blessing it is to have medicine and paramedics, doctors, nurses, and so on who know what they are doing. I sure didn't! I definitely learned a few things - don't be afraid to call 911, insect bites can be very serious (they had a couple others in the ER that day who had been stung and couldn't breathe), and remember to pray because Heavenly Father can bless you in ways others can't. I'm so very blessed to still have my little Kalin and to be a mother. Not sure why those darn wasps were even created other than to give opposition, but I am grateful for this experience and what I learned as a mother that day.

I didn't get a picture of her when she was all swollen, but this is after we came home from the hospital and you can see her eyes are still a little puffy.  She got this cute Wellstart Bee (kind of ironic right?)  and some stickers.  She was such a good sport and so tough through it all!

The Baby "Bump" - 16 weeks

This is what I got trying to take a picture of myself at about 14 weeks.  I'm going to get at least one cute picture of me pregnant!

Kalin took this picture of me!  I'm almost 4 months along (16 weeks)!

First Day of School

Can't believe its that time again!  And both my kids are going to school!  Kalin has Mrs. Stubbs in First Grade and Porter has Ms. Murillo and Mrs. Rager (para-pro) in Kindergarten.

A fun new tradition...come home to a huge cookie on the first day of school!  They both said they had a great day - Porter even said it was Awesome!

What do we do when Daddy comes home...

When Alan came home from Boston we decided we needed to do some things together as a family.  He took a few days off and we had planned to go to the beach but the weather was pretty stormy and decided it wouldn't be worth it.  Instead, we drove up North to Amicalola Falls.  It was beautiful and such a fun/hard hike!

I can totally tell I wasn't feeling up to par - still having morning sickness (all day)!

The coolest 3 people I know!  These stairs were killer!

The next day we went to the Georgia Aquarium (August 1).

Touching the sting rays

Then we let the kids play in the fountains and the Olympic Park.

I always get the best faces of Kalin!
